Where's a good walk with my little dog in Wynnum West or Hemmant?

These two are the quiet end of my round: no foreshore, no harbour, but a fenced council yard each and, in Wynnum West, a wetland reserve that's the best flat wander on this side of the bay.

I pick up from both on weekday mornings. Here's where I'd send you.

Sandy Camp Road Wetlands, Wynnum West

For a walk rather than a run, this is the one. Flat tracks through the wetlands, bird hides along the way, and at the right time of year more waterbirds than you can name.

Pups on the lead only, and check the sign at the entrance: it's a nature reserve, and the rules can be tighter than a normal park.

Good for: a slow wander, a sniffer, a morning when you want quiet.

Where can they run? Evelyn Road Park, Wynnum West

Brisbane City Council lists one off-leash area in Wynnum West: Evelyn Road Park. Fully fenced, no lights, and no separate small-dog side, so it's a daytime, mixed yard. Go when it's quiet with a little one.

For a small-dog yard, Elanora Park in Wynnum is the closest with its own enclosure.

Hemmant: Paul Conti Park

Hemmant's council off-leash area is Paul Conti Park on Ragnor Road: fully fenced, no lights, no small-dog side. Same rule as Evelyn Road: a daytime yard, best when quiet.

If both are busy, Tingalpa's two fenced yards, Kianawah Park and Robinson Park, are just up the road.
