Where's a good walk with my little dog in Thorneside?

Thorneside has a lovely foreshore path and no off-leash area of its own. Here's the walk, and where the nearest fenced yards are (they're in Birkdale, five minutes away).

Thorneside's small, and I'll be honest with you up front: it has a lovely foreshore walk and no off-leash area of its own. The nearest fenced yards are in Birkdale, five minutes down the road.

It's on my weekday round, so here's the walk I'd send you on, and where to go when your little one needs a run.

The foreshore at the creek mouth

Thorneside sits where Tingalpa Creek meets the bay, and the walk is along that edge. Start at Beth Boyd Park and follow the path along the water. It's flat, sealed, and part of the long bay cycleway, so you can go as far as you like towards Birkdale and Wellington Point.

For a little one, a slice of it is plenty. Breeze off the water, boats on the creek, and the mangroves at low tide for a sniffer.

It's a shared path, so bikes come through. A short lead and the left-hand side keeps everyone happy.

Good for: a morning wander, a pup who likes to watch the water.

Where can they run? Not in Thorneside

Redland City Council doesn't list an off-leash area in Thorneside. When a local asked, council said the closest is along the foreshore at Aquatic Paradise Park West on Commodore Drive, Birkdale. That one is only partially fenced and has no small-dog side, so with a little one I'd go one further.

Three Paddocks Park on Thomas Street, Birkdale, is fully fenced with an airlock gate and a separate small-dog area. That's the one I'd drive to. I wrote up the Birkdale walks separately.

I checked both on the council's own list this week. Rules change, so if you're reading this in a year, look it up again before you unclip.

Yes. Thorneside's on my weekday round, which runs from Wynnum down to Birkdale. Your little one gets picked up from your door in the morning and dropped back in the afternoon, worn out from a day at my place in Lota.
