Where's a good walk with my little dog in Manly West?

Manly West has one fenced, lit council yard on Stannard Road, and the Lota Creek Boardwalk starts on its doorstep. Ros's Manly West walks.

Manly West is the suburb between the bay and the bush, and it's got one of each: a fenced council yard on Stannard Road, and the start of the Lota Creek Boardwalk on its edge.

The Lota Creek Boardwalk from Whites Road

The best walk near Manly West is the one it shares with Lota. Park at the end of Whites Road and a wide timber boardwalk takes you out over the mangroves and across the creek, then a flat track loops you back through the gums. About two kilometres, shady most of the way.

It's wide enough for a pram, a bike and a pup on a lead to pass without a squeeze, and it's the one I do most with the pack. I wrote it up properly in the Lota walks post.

Good for: a half-hour wander, hot days, a little one who likes to sniff more than stride.

Where can they run? Stannard Road Park

Brisbane City Council lists one off-leash area in Manly West: Stannard Road Park. It's fully fenced and it has lights, so it works on a summer evening after the heat's gone.

What it doesn't have is a separate small-dog side. So it's a mixed yard, and with a little one I'd go when it's quiet, or pick your moment. If a big boisterous group is in there, the small-dog yards at Don Randall Park in Lota or Elanora Park in Wynnum are each a few minutes away.

I checked that on the council's own list this week. Rules change, so if you're reading this in a year, look it up again before you unclip.

Good for: an evening run under the lights, a pup who's happy in a mixed yard.
